‘Tollywood film director’ was not the prefix few years back; it was ‘Doctor’ – yes Kamaleshwar Mukhopadhyay was a Doctor by profession few years back. Bright medical student Kamaleshwar Mukhopadhyay, who achieved JEE Medical Rank 80 became Doctor in 1990s. But, the affection towards film making forced him to do leave doctoral profession in 2003. During his medical officer profession, Dr. Kamaleswar Mukherjee practised at Kothari Medical Centre, Ekbalpur Nursing Home & EEDF, Kolkata. After 10 years of doctor-ship finally in the year 2003 Dr. Kamaleshwar Mukherjee left his medical officer (doctoral) profession and shifted Mumbai as an Assistant in Ad Film Making under Amit Sen.
It was the start of ‘Doctor’ becoming ‘Director’. Later, Kamaleshwar Mukherjee made few Ad Films for ‘Tropicana’, ‘Alpeinlible’, ‘Sony Bravia TV’, ‘Taaza Tea’ etc. After few years of observation & learning; he came to Kolkata with the dream of making full-length Bengali film and started writing dialogues, scripts, & did screen player role in few Tollywood films. Doctor turned Director Kamaleswar Mukherjee made his Bengali film making debut with Uro Chithi Film in the year 2011. The first Bengali film of Director Kamaleswar Mukherjee Uro Chithi didn't do well in the Box-Office but the work was appreciated. ‘Meghe Dhaka Tara’ is the 2nd film of Kamaleswar Mukherjee, who took the challenge of making film on Ritwik Ghatak.
