Bengal and Kolkata should feel proud of Swimmer Amrita Das, who has successfully swum across English Channel in August-End & Early September in 2010. 22-years old Swimmer Amrita Das who has completed her graduation from Raja Rammohan College, Kolkata got training from College Square Swimming Pool of Kolkata.
Amrita Das is the eighth swimmer from West Bengal to have crossed the English Channel. In the year 1958 Mirhir Sen of Bengal, India was first Asian to cross the English channel and Bula Chowdhury is first girl / woman in the world to have cross English Channel twice in 1980s and 1990s. In the last year 2009, Rashmi Sharma from Bengal has crossed English Channel.
